The chlorate candle will emit five litres of O₂ into the breathing bag. This is to aid the user on their first initial breathe
The KO₂ activates from the moisture of your exhalation breathe. This reaction removes the CO₂ and produces O₂ which flows into the breathing bag.
Dwell period, oxygen has been generated and is within the breathing bag ready to be inhaled
The O₂ produced from the KO₂ is now drawn from the breathing bag and then through the generators, breathing tubes and into the oronasal mask for the user to breathe. This cycle then continues, this is a closed circuit breathing apparatus, the user is recycling their own breath.
The alarm at 2/3 of the apparatus's duration informs the user of the O₂ level. The alarm will continue pulsing from the 2/3 mark till the full duration, the alarm then changes to a constant pulse to state to remove the apparatus if the user is within a respirable atmosphere.
